rolodump picks your best photos and lays them out as a carousel. All of that happens on your phone. This page says exactly what does leave it, and why.
What never leaves your phone
- Your photos and videos, their previews, thumbnails and frames.
- Faces, and the people you name in the app.
- What the app works out about each photo: quality scores, labels, what it looks like, where it was taken.
- Your voice. When you tell your story out loud, your phone's own speech recognizer turns it into text on the device.
- Your drafts and the carousels you export.
What leaves your phone
- Your story, when you tell one. To put a dump in story order and write captions, the app sends the text of your story and a short written description of each photo to our server: words and numbers made on your phone, such as "sunset over the city, 2 faces, Porto, Sat 19:15". Never the photo itself, its file name or its place in your gallery. Our server asks Anthropic's Claude model to plan the dump and sends the plan back. We don't keep your story or the descriptions; our logs only record that a plan was made and how long it took. Anthropic handles the request under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train on it.
- An install id. A random id for your install, so our server can apply fair-use limits. It isn't linked to your name.
- Your account, if you sign in. With Sign in with Apple or Google, the provider tells our server a stable id for you (and your email, which we don't store). We keep that id with your rolodump account id, and nothing else about you. If you used Apple's "Hide My Email", we never see your address.
- Purchases. Rolodump Pro is sold through the App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat processes it for us: it receives your install or account id and your purchase history, to tell the app whether you have Pro.
- Usage analytics. Anonymous events about how the app is used (for example, that a dump was made, or a screen was opened), sent to PostHog to improve the app. They contain no photos, no story text and no person profile.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data or share it for advertising.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't train models on your photos or your stories.
Permissions
- Photos and videos: to pick and lay out the ones you choose, on the device.
- Microphone and speech recognition: only when you tap the mic to tell your story; recognition runs on the device.
- Notifications: to tell you when a ready-made dump is waiting (you can turn this off in the app).
Deleting your data
Everything on your phone goes when you delete the app. If you made an account, delete it in the app under Account → Delete account; that removes your account, the link to your Apple or Google sign-in and your RevenueCat customer record. You can also ask us by email: see how to delete your account.
Children
rolodump isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
